CRUCIFIED, RESURRECTED, AND ASCENDED WITH CHRIST

HOME OF ARTICLES  “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 NKJV)   We might miss the ultimate purpose and blessing of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension if we remotely regard them only as a significant historical event. If all we know and believe is that Christ died for our transgressions, rose for our justification, and now seated at the right hand of God the Father, making intercession for us, we are too shallow in our spiritual understanding and revelation of the significance and implications of Jesus’ crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. From God’s viewpoint, Christ did not just die for our sins and then rose for our justification. We also died and rose with Him to walk in the newness of life. Paul clearly states this truth in his epis...

IF CHRIST HAS NOT RISEN

HOME OF ARTICLES  “And if Christ has not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.” (1 Corinthians 15:14 NKJV)   In a swift and decisive move to forestall Jesus’ resurrection, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered to Pilate, requesting that Jesus’ tomb be secured until the third day, for they were afraid of the tremendous impact of the news of Jesus’ resurrection would have on the people. How mistaken they were! Death can’t hold Jesus, the Prince of life, the Lord of lords, and the King of kings. Hallelujah! Having received Pilate’s permission, the religious leaders secured Jesus’ tomb by sealing the stone and setting a guard—many soldiers to watch the tomb. But when the set time came for the Prince of life and the King of glory to rise from the dead, having accomplished His mission to the dead, the earth shook, and the guards watching the tomb shook for fear and became like dead men. The pangs of death were loosed, and the stone against the tomb was ...

WHAT DID JESUS FINISH?

Home of Articles  “ So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (John 19:30 NKJV)   The suffering and death of Jesus Christ on the cross were not accidental; instead, it was premeditated or foreordained by God (Rev. 13:8). When John the Baptist saw Jesus coming toward him, he proclaimed,  “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29 NKJV). Jesus’ death on the cross was the hidden wisdom of God ordained before the ages to restore the fallen man to glory,  “which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Cor. 2:8 NKJV).  Hallelujah! Before the Lord Jesus yielded up His spirit on the cross, He boldly and loudly declared, “IT IS FINISHED!” John writes,  “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (John 19:30 NKJV). Jesus’...

A Leap Into the Dark?

HOME OF ARTICLES  A Leap Into the Dark? Eniyekpemi Fidelis O  Doctrinal Matters Existence of God Faith and Reason Faith and Reason One of the most abused verses in all of Scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Often, those who “expound” upon the apostle Paul’s statement explain that faith implies something less than knowledge that is, they teach that we must accept evidence blindly and take a “leap of faith.” Many so-called teachers and preachers, when commenting on 2 Corinthians 5:7, argue for a separation of faith and facts.  German theologian Hans Kung upheld this idea of “biblical” faith when he wrote: “Even in faith, then, there is no certainty entirely free from doubt. In faith, we must commit ourselves to something uncertain” (1980, p. 61). Similar to Kung’s ideas about faith is the statement of televangelist Robert Schuller, who suggested: “Faith is a commitment to an unprovable assumption” (1984). If these men are correct, faith is ...

WAS EVERYTHING IN THE BIBLE INSPIRED BY THE "HOLY GHOST"?

▶   HOME OF ARTICLES  Eniyekpemi Fidelis O. Bulletin Articles Doctrinal Matters Difficult Passages Difficult Passages As we study and defend the Bible, we must keep in mind that we are dealing with an inspired record that contains numerous uninspired statements. Even though “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16), not everything that the inspired writers recorded was a true statement. For example, after God created Adam, He told him not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil lest he die (Genesis 2:17). Yet, when the serpent approached Eve, he “informed” her that she would  not  die if she ate of this forbidden fruit (3:4). Obviously, Satan was not inspired by God to say “You will not surely die.” In fact, as we learn earlier, he actually lied (John 8:44). However, when Moses recorded the events that took place in Eden hundreds of years later, he wrote by inspiration of God (cf. Luke 24:44; John 5:46). When Jesus healed a demoniac, so...
