Did Jesus Christ Exist in the Form of God While on Earth?

Though these authors undoubtedly mean well, their position is quite erroneous as to the nature of the incarnate Christ. Several arguments have been employed in attempting to buttress this position. For example, it has been argued: (a) God cannot be tempted (James 1:13); but (b) Jesus was tempted (Hebrews 2:18). The conclusion is thus supposed to be:  Jesus did not exist in the form of God . The logical consequen...

What Happens to Faith When We Doubt?

What Happens to Faith When We Doubt? Eniyekpemi Fidelis Oyinpreyebi (Doctrine matter)  ( Interpretation) When Peter walked on the water toward Jesus, we can imagine that he launched out with great gusto (Matthew 14:28-33). And yet, as he glanced away from his Lord to look at the treacherous winds and waves he knew so well, it seems he lost certainty in the divine power that had borne him across the water thus far. When he returned to the boat, the Master admonished him with these words: “O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (14:31). Throughout the New Testament, “doubt” is couched in negative terms. It is something we are to avoid in prayer, for example (1 Timothy 2:8). Jesus told His disciples that they could move mountains if only they would believe, and not doubt (Matthew 21:21-22; Mark 11:23-24). Paul advised the Roman Christians that they stood condemned if they doubted the propriety of eating food sacrificed to idols (14:23). The classic example, of course, is...

Babylon: A Test Case in Prophecy [Part I]

Menu Babylon: A Test Case in Prophecy [Part I] Eniyekpemi Fidelis Oyinpreyebi  Biblical Prophecy, interpretation, Doctrine matters  It was the most remarkable community of its day a San Francisco, New York, or London of the antique world. Herodotus (484-425 B.C.), known as the father of ancient history, once visited the great metropolis. He said that “in magnificence there is no other city that approaches to it” (I.178). It was Babylon! Babylon’s roots reached back almost to the dawn of civilization. Its genesis was with the mighty hunter, Nimrod, who conquered men and made them his unwilling subjects (Genesis 10:10). From that ignoble origin eventually evolved the Neo-Babylonian empire (614-539 B.C.), which figures so prominently in Old Testament history. THE GOLDEN CITY The city of Babylon straddled the Euphrates River about fifty miles south of what is now modern Baghdad in Iraq. Herodotus claimed that the town was laid out in an exact square, approximately fifteen m...

Proving Your Faith

Proving Your Faith Eniyekpemi Fidelis Oyinpreyebi   How do we know that Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God? Is our faith based merely upon tradition? Is faith the result of religious fanaticism? No, genuine faith stands firmly upon evidence. After the conversion of Saul of Tarsus, the newly appointed apostle entered the Jewish synagogues and “proclaimed Jesus, that he is the son of God” (Acts 9:20). His message continually amazed those who heard it. It seemed incredible that one who had so opposed the Christian Way could now be one of its most zealous advocates. The historian Luke informed his readers that Saul increased in strength, and he “confounded the Jews that lived in Damascus, proving that this is the Christ” (Acts 9:22). Of interest in this passage is the term “proving.” It is a translation of the Greek word  sumbibazon . It is a present tense participle form, which suggests that Paul’s preaching was characterized consistently by a demonstrative line of argum...

Did Moses Command Divorce? (Deuteronomy 24:1-4)

Menu Home ▶   ▶   Did Moses Command Divorce? (Deuteronomy 24:1-4)   ENIYEKPEMI FIDELIS, Dr.... In answer to the question posed by the Pharisees regarding divorce (“Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”), Jesus directed their attention to two Old Testament verses that provided the proper answer Genesis 1:27 and Genesis 2:24. He then provided His own divine commentary on the two verses: “So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:6). Observe carefully: humans have no right to separate what God Himself has joined together, unless He gives His approval to do so. Hence, wholesale, carte blanche divorce is not sanctioned by God. This view of divorce coincides with God’s true attitude toward divorce in His forthright declaration through the prophet Malachi: “For the LORD God of Israel says that He hates divorce” (2:16). Before Jesus could complete His response as ...
