“Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (1 Corinthians 6:16-17 NKJV)
Just as God intended for a marriage relationship between a man and woman to result in a physical oneness (the husband and wife becoming one flesh), so does God intend for a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ to result in spiritual oneness with Christ (the believers becoming one spirit with Jesus Christ).
Paul queries the Corinthians, “Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (1 Cor. 6:16-17 NKJV).
Having become born-again through faith in the person and finished the work of Jesus Christ, you are now one spirit with the Lord Jesus Christ. You are now entirely like Jesus Christ in your born-again spirit. Hallelujah!
The Scripture aptly states this truth.
1 Corinthians 6:17 – NKJV
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.
1 John 4:17 – NKJV
17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
While you may never get to comprehend the mystery of your spiritual union or oneness with the Lord Jesus Christ in this life fully, it takes walking in the light of this truth for you to wholly appropriate, experience, and enjoy the inexhaustible riches of God’s grace that are available to you in Christ in this life.
Knowing and believing that you are one spirit with Jesus Christ is a primary key to living a prosperous, victorious, triumphant, or overcoming life in this evil world.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, your relationship with God does not make you one flesh (soul and body) with Jesus Christ but one spirit with Jesus Christ.
While you are not yet fully one with Christ in your soul (will, mind, and emotions) and body, you are now fully one with Christ in your born-again spirit.
As a born-again believer, you no longer have a spiritually dead, weak, or subservient spirit but a living, vital, dynamic, rich, and robust spirit precisely like that of Jesus Christ. All those who are joined to Christ are now one spirit with Christ.
Paul testifies, “But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (1 Cor. 6:17 NKJV).
The Greek word that was translated as “one” here is “heis,” and it means “a single (one), to the exclusion of others” (W.E. Vine).
The Greek word “heis” is the same word translated as “one” and used twice in 1 Timothy 2:5 to emphasize that there is only one God and one mediator between God and men.
1 Timothy 2:5 – NKJV
5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.
There are no two kinds of God in the heavens and earth; there is only one true God. Similarly, there are no two kinds of mediators between God and men; there is just one Mediator, the Man Christ Jesus.
When you became born again, you were spiritually plucked out of the first man, Adam, and spiritually grafted into the second Man, Christ Jesus, who is a life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45).
You are now a branch in the true vine, Christ Jesus (John. 15:5). As a branch firmly joined to the vine, you are now partaking fully of the rich sap or fatness of the vine (Romans. 11:17). All that is in the vine (Jesus Christ) is also in the vine’s branches (the born-again believers).
Similarly, all that is in the Spirit of Christ is also in your born-again spirit, not in a small or limited measure, but in an abundant and unlimited measure. God called you “a joint heir with Christ” (Romans. 8:17 NKJV).
That is also why God said He had blessed you “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians. 1:3 NKJV). And He has given you “all things that pertain to life and godliness.” (2 Pet. 1:3 NKJV).
There is nothing Christ has that He has not freely and abundantly shared with you in your born-again spirit.
If you have indeed and fully become one spirit with Christ, why are you not manifesting the fullness of God as Christ did?
It is simply because of the flesh—your unrenewed mind and unregenerate body!
While it is true that your regenerated spirit is ideally like that of Jesus, you still possess a soul (mind, will, and emotions) and body that are not yet perfectly like that of the risen Lord Jesus Christ (1 John 3:2, Col. 3:4).
Therefore, to the degree to which you have renewed your mind, yielded your will to God’s Spirit, and disciplined your body, you will manifest God’s glory, presence, or power. (Romans. 12:2, 2 Cor. 4:11).
Even though your born-again spirit shares the same fullness of God with Christ, you may never express or manifest God’s fullness in your spirit if you don’t fully yield to God’s Spirit.
Beloved, it is not more of God that you need to experience and manifest God’s glory, presence, and power; instead, you need to give more of yourself to God.
The more you yield to God, the more God will flow or manifest through you!
Therefore, quit begging God for more of Him when He said He has made you one spirit with Christ and thus a joint heir with the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 6:17, Romans. 8:17).
As a born-again believer, you presently have all it takes in your spirit to live a triumphant, prosperous, and fulfilled life, just as the Lord Jesus lived while on earth.
You are complete in Christ, without any lack or deficiency in your spirit!
2 Peter 1:3 – MNT
3 For his power divine has granted to us everything needful for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue.
Colossians 2:9-10 – TCNT
9 For in Christ the Godhead in all its fulness dwells incarnate;
10 And, by your union with him, you also are filled with it. He is the Head of all Archangels and Powers of Heaven.
Enough of seeking, finding, and giving excuses for your sinful habits, addiction, sickness, defeat, bondage, or failure.
Rise today to begin to discover and appropriate by faith the inexhaustible riches of God, which Jesus Christ has gladly, lovingly, and freely shared with you in your born-again spirit. Selah
